廖家明1992年出生於中國廣東。2016年，他從中山大學畢業并取得新聞學文學學士學位；2019年，他從香港城市大學畢業并取得創意媒體藝術碩士學位。他現時工作、生活於香港。

廖氏以圖像為創作基礎，并以此延伸至攝影、錄像、裝置等媒介。他關注都市生活、少數群體及生存空間等議題，以作品質疑網絡和信息世代中現實與虛擬、主體和客體的關係和連結。他的作品曾於香港、上海、倫敦及蘇黎世等城市展出或放映。他是2019-2020年度WMA大師獎的5個入圍者之一。

Liao Jiaming (b.1992, Guangdong, China) obtained his BA in Journalism from Sun Yat-sen University in 2016, and his MFA in Creative Media from City University of Hong Kong in 2019. He now lives and works in Hong Kong.

Starting from images, Liao’s creative practice expands to different media including photography, video, installation, and etc. His works usually focus on the topics of urban life, minority groups and living space, questioning the relation between the real and the virtual, as well as the subject and the object. Liao’s works have been exhibited or screened in Hong Kong, Shanghai, London, Zurich and other cities.  He is one of the five finalists of WMA Master 2019-2020.

生產與消費影像的方法

1. 我的靈感通常來自於非常具體的事件、場景和感受；
2. 我傾向於認為，當你創作了一些東西並試圖將其公開化的時候，無論作品的情感或內容有多私密，它都會變得公共性，所以有一種責任在裏面；
3. 但是，我想用我的作品來回應社會問題，我的藝術實踐的直覺或動力通常來自情感，我相信公共和私人之間有很強的聯繫；
4. 我的大部分作品都是以影像為基礎，譬如說錄像和攝影，我一直在嘗試各種方法將它們延伸到裝置、表演等；
5. 我對人們如何消費和使用圖像，以及他們通過圖像的感知感興趣。 也許是因為我的新聞專業背景，我更注重作品的真實性，尤其是當它們是錄像和攝影作品時。

當社會的動蕩關係到城市中的所有人時，我不知道藝術可以追求到甚麼。

Ways of Producing and Consuming Images

1. I am usually inspired by very specific events, scenes, and feelings;
2. I tend to believe that when you create something and try to publicise it, no matter how private the emotion or content of the work is, it becomes public, so there is a responsibility within;
3. However, I would like to respond with my work to social issues, the intuition or drive of my practice is usually emotional, I believe there is a strong link between the public and the private;
4. The majority of my work is based on images, say, video and photography, and I have been trying various methods to extend them into installations, performance, etc;
5. I am interested in how people consume and use images, and their perception through images. Maybe it is because of my background of journalism, I pay more attention to the realness of my work, especially when they are video and photography.

When the social unrest concerns everyone in the city, I lose in the pursuit of what arts can do.
