朱穎琳 CHU Wing Lam, Kelly

朱穎琳認為藝術是一個讓她質疑「正常」的方法。她主要以裝置及雕塑進行創作,並配合圖像,動態影象及偶發事件作為作品形式。

女性主義理論激發起她創作不禮貌的作品。她喜歡將不同被遺棄或排斥的材料,場地轉化成作品。她的作品常處於可變的狀態,並需要被時間所激活。

她亦喜歡在被認為不相關、較常被忽視的事物尋找討論性別議題的可能性,如抽象繪畫、建築架構、室內香薰機、能量飲料及酒店床單等。另外,與其他人合作是她的藝術創作重要的一部分。

朱穎琳2019年在香港浸會大學視覺藝術學院畢業。她的作品曾於多個國家的團體展覽展出,After_ (香港, 2021), IAM International Art Moves 2020(柏林,2020)、The Haunted(倫敦,2019)、Zone Out(南韓,2019)、出爐2019藝術畢業生聯展(香港大會堂,2019)

 

CHU Wing Lam (Kelly) is a visual artist who believes art is a means for her to see behind the normality. She primarily practices installation and sculpture. She also works with photography, moving images, and events.

Feminist critique often inspires her to create impolite works. She enjoys working with material and sites that are often pre-owned, unclean, abandoned, or neglected. Her art pieces are often in a state of change and take time to activate them. She also likes to see the possibility of discussing gender issues in things that are considered irrelevant and more often overlooked, such as abstract painting, architectural structure, air freshener, and energy drinks. Besides, collaborating with other people is also a significant part of her practice.

Her works featured in group exhibitions including After_ (Hong Kong, 2021), The Haunted (London, 2019), Pathfinder (Berlin, 2019), Zone Out (Seoul, 2019), and Fresh Trend (Hong Kong, 2019).

 


 

潑冷水

 

排名不分先後:

1. 生活上遇到不理解的事,當中憤怒是常見的情緒之一。想梳理不解的事物背後的脈絡。
2. 想了解物背後綁定的機制、因由及意識形態。
3. 嘗試在想法/物料中識別出一些術語和關鍵詞,用這些字詞尋找有關的讀物。
4. 與友人傾談,有合意的想法就提出合作,互相督促進展 ,又可以把想法帶到意料之外 。
5. 一定要有點搞笑。
6. 把物料放在空間中不同的位置,直到覺得「解決」了。如解決不到就換空間再試。
7. 很多時看到美好的事物,會想探究一下背後的賤斥,又稱「潑冷水」。

當時不少友人都進入不到創作的狀態 , 疫情放大了沒有穩定收入的可怕 ,我未能把創作放在首位。

 

 

Throwing Wet Blanket

 

In no particular order:

1. Anger is one of the most common emotions when you don’t understand something in your life. I want to make sense of those contexts.
2. Want to understand the systems, causes and ideologies.
3. Try to identify terms and keywords in ideas/materials and use them to find relevant readings.
4. Talk to friends and offer to collaborate if you share a similar idea, so that you can push each other forward and take it beyond your expectations.
5. Make sure it has a sense of humour.
6. Place materials in different locations in the space until you feel you have ‘solved’ it. If it doesn’t work out, change the location and try again.
7. Often when I see something ideal, I want to explore the abject aspect of it, I would call it ‘Throwing Wet Blanket’.

At the time, many of my friends could not get into a creative state of mind, and the pandemics deepened the fear of not having a steady income, I also couldn’t put my creativity first.
