劉暢 LIU Chang

劉暢是一名活躍在擴展現實,裝置藝術,實驗電影和動畫領域的社會科學學者和新媒體藝術家。當她在香港城市大學攻讀純藝術碩士的時候,她創作了很多嘗試提高人類間共鳴的藝術作品。“旁觀者”這部由她創作的交互電影向觀眾呈現了一個承受著解離人格障礙的童年虐待幸存者的內心世界。這部作品獲得了Stuttgart film winter電影節的環球文化獎,也被2019年的ifva電影節評選為了決賽作品。目前,她作為一名城市大學的博士學者持續的進行著社會科學的研究和藝術創作。她此刻的研究重點是使用創意的擴展現實敘事來測試和改良目前已有的同情治療法,試圖提高它的可獲得性和有效性。

 

Liu Chang is a social science researcher and new media artist who works extensively in the field of Extended Reality(VR/AR), installation, experimental film, and 3d&2d animation. During her MFA study at the City University of Hong Kong, she was dedicated to creating artworks that could enhance the resonance among people. “Bystander”, an interactive film created by her, revealed the inner world of a child abuse survivor who suffered from depersonalization disorder. “Bystander” won the global culture prize at the Stuttgart film winter festival and was included in ifva 2019 as the finalist. Currently, she is pursuing her research and artistic creation at the City as a Phd student. Her current research focuses on the strengthening of accessibility and efficiency of compassion focus therapy by experimenting and adapting the existed therapy method with creative extended reality narratives.

 


 

基於科學實據的藝術創作

 

我的藝術創作應該從哪裏出發?

藝術創作可以由生活出發,以展示社會現象與社會變遷為目標;藝術創作可以由自我表達出發,傳遞藝術家的美學觀、知識、情感等等;藝術創作可以由對文化、宗教、政治的評論出發,作為釋義、強調、娛樂的工具。我一直在問自己,我的藝術創作應該從哪裏出發。藝術的定義部分解決了我的疑問。對我來說,藝術應該代表着背離常態、創新、自由、獨立和靈感。於是,我專注於精神病學和心理治療學的研究,成為了一名橫跨電腦科學、心理學和藝術實踐的博士生。我未來的藝術創作將由我從研究中獲得的科學實證出發,更多的服務於藝術創作的創新和靈感方面。

如果說藝術創作是一種傳達訊息的方法,那麽它與其他訊息傳播者的區別是什麽?

這是另一個讓我困惑的問題。我想最大區別的可能是,藝術創作不應該明確而清晰地把所有的信息傳達給觀眾,而是邀請觀眾通過聯想、解讀、洞察及情感參與,從而在作品中獲取信息。基於這個理念,我在空間敘事、互動裝置、實驗敘事方面做了很多工作。

 

Art Creation Based on Scientific Evidence

 

Where should my art creation depart from?

Art creation could depart from life, serving the purpose of revealing social phenomenon and aiming for social transformation; Art creation could depart from self-expression, delivering the aesthetics, knowledge, and emotions of the artists; Art creation could depart from comments on culture, religion, and politic, functioning as tools for paraphrasing, stressing or recreation. I have been asking myself, where should my art creation depart from. The definitions of art partially resolved my questioning. For me, art should stand for deviation, innovation, freedom, independence, and inspiration. I then, focusing on the research of psychiatry and psychotherapy and became a PhD student that straddles computer science, psychology, and art practice. My future artwork will depart from the scientific evidence I gained from my research and serve more on the innovation and inspiration aspects of art creation.

 

If art creation is an approach to delivering messages, what distinguished it from other message disseminators?

This is another question that has puzzled me. I think the major difference could be that art creation should not be explicit and clear, giving out all the information to the audience, instead, it should invite the audience to get the information out of the work through association, decoding, perspective-taking, and emotional involvement. Based on this idea, I work a lot with spatial narration, interactive installation, and experimental narration.
