Tam Man Ching was born in Hong Kong. She obtained her BA in Fine Arts at the Chinese University of Hong Kong in 2020. Her creative practices mainly involve mixed media, installations and interventional practices. She is stimulated by contemporary primitivities to explore the attachment recalled in human amidst their ambivalence towards the world. Through the practices she examines and explores the relationship among constructs and people with everyday objects, concurrently establishing her conversations with humanity and the cosmos.

Her works have been shown in exhibitions and screenings including “Fresh Trend 2020” (Hong Kong City Hall, Hong Kong, 2020) and “HKCR X Video Cypher X Upmood, HKCR is 3” (Eaton, Hong Kong, 2019).

She currently lives and works in Hong Kong and recently co-founded Ipseng, a local artist collective.

  1. 回想、反省生活上自己關注的事物(某些深刻地令自己反思/觸動的時刻);
  2. 探討為何那些時刻會使自己在意->追溯和連繫至本身關注的大主題;
  3. 以該些時刻/事物為出發點,在大主題的方向下作其他研究/資料搜集;
  4. 內化及深化有價值的新材料;

– 隨意、開放、主動地接收不同資訊;

– 學習和發展新主題;

– 社會運動期間;

– 疫情初期;

Connections to Everyday life

Purposeful:

– To expand/explore in depth the identified topics:

  1. Retrospect and reflect on what you concern in life (certain moments that make you deeply reflect/touch);
  2. Explore why those moments matter to you -> to trace and connect to the larger topics of one’s own concerns;
  3. Use those moments/events/things as a starting point for other research/material collection under the direction of the larger topics;
  4. Internalise and deepen new materials with value;
  5. Create a discursive structure/emotional context for the new work.

Non-purposeful:

– Being random, open and active in receiving different information;
– Learning and developing new topics;
– To remain vulnerable to the world.

Conditions that I am not able to create art in the past 24 months.

– During the social movement;
– At the beginning of the pandemic;
– When these two events come together to bring chaos in time.
